Celebrating the Importance of Family
Family Day, observed on the third Monday of February in several Canadian provinces, is a special holiday dedicated to cherishing family bonds and creating lasting memories. Originally established in Alberta in 1990, the day was designed to highlight the importance of family values and provide a much-needed mid-winter break. Over the years, other provinces such as British Columbia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and New Brunswick have embraced this tradition, making it a beloved holiday for many Canadians.
A Time for Togetherness
Family Day offers a wonderful opportunity to pause from our busy lives and reconnect with loved ones. Whether it’s enjoying the great outdoors, sharing a meal, or participating in community events, the focus of the day is to strengthen the bonds that bring us together. Many cities and towns host special activities, such as free skating, arts and crafts, or family-friendly entertainment, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy. It’s a day to reflect on the relationships that shape our lives and to celebrate the joy of being part of a supportive community.
Creating Warm Memories in Winter
In the midst of February’s chilly weather, Family Day brings warmth and joy to the season. It’s a time to prioritize quality moments, whether through cozy indoor gatherings or adventurous outings. The holiday encourages us to be present with those who matter most and to appreciate the connections that make life meaningful. As we embrace this tradition, we are reminded that family comes in many forms, and the shared moments of love and laughter are what truly define its spirit.

Nothing helps with the healing better than sharing your experience and discussing how to heal with others who have had a similar experience. That mutual support is what we find in LWR meetings. If you want to learn more about LWR, contact Lois at loislwr@gmail.com.

The speaker Kat McLeod is an atheist who is passionate about dispelling misinformation, especially regarding alternative “medicine”. When not working at her day job at the University of Alberta, she volunteers as a mentor to medical students, walks other people’s dogs, creates art, and enjoys mingling with other like-minded skeptics and heathens.
