Power-to-X (PtX) is a term for producing green hydrogen using renewable energy sources like wind and solar. While this process has great potential for reducing carbon emissions, only a tiny fraction of hydrogen production is currently green. A recent paper highlights the lack of investment in PtX, primarily due to regulatory uncertainty and insufficient infrastructure. Governments can solve these problems by establishing clear regulations and funding necessary projects. Additionally, incentives like subsidies and a carbon tax could encourage private investment in green technology. Without proactive government action, the transition to green energy could stall, leaving us reliant on fossil fuels longer than necessary.
