Welcome to the July 2024 Newsletter for RMA. If you are in or around Alberta you will know that July means the Calgary Stampede is on! Ya-hoo! Get your boots on! (or off, we don’t judge!). We hope you had a great Canada Day on July 1st and if you are American, a Happy 4th of July to you as well.
In Calgary and throughout Alberta, July brings a unique blend of local festivities and natural splendour. The Calgary Stampede, known as “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth,” dominates the city’s social calendar with its rodeo events, chuckwagon races, and vibrant western culture from early to mid-July. This event attracts visitors worldwide, offering a glimpse into Alberta’s rich cowboy heritage. July also marks the peak of Alberta’s wildflower season, especially in the Rocky Mountains and Banff National Park, where stunning alpine meadows burst into bloom, attracting hikers and nature enthusiasts alike. Additionally, Alberta’s lakes and rivers are perfect for fishing and water sports during this warm month, providing ample opportunities for outdoor recreation. Whether enjoying the Stampede’s excitement, exploring the Rockies’ natural beauty, or engaging in local cultural events, July in Calgary and Alberta offers a diverse tapestry of experiences that celebrate both tradition and nature.
You may notice that the newsletter has a new look and feel this month. We are working on new things with our website and a new way of managing the newsletter. We hope you find it interesting.

Skeptics in the Pub
Friday, July 19
Exceptionally on July 19 at 6:00 pm
In July we won’t have our regular Skeptics in the Pub event but we will take part in something very different: the first-ever Global Skeptics in the Pub event!
It will be a 24-hour online event – see details on the site – but the Rocky Mountain Atheists will gather in a pub here in Calgary and make it our event for this month, so you can join us online or in person.
We will keep you updated on this post and our social media, but put the Global Skeptics in the Pub on July 19 at 6 pm on your schedule and wait for the details.
The in-person event will be at the Bottlescrew Bill’s Pub & Buzzards Restaurant 140, 10th Avenue SW – 140-10th Avenue SW – Calgary, AB. You can find the Zoom link to join online here.
Movie Night Online
Taking a break too!
Movie night will be taking a break for July so everyone can enjoy our summer nights. Get out there and do something and we will be back soon.
