The brain summons deep sleep for healing from life-threatening injury

A recent study reveals that deep sleep might be a natural healing response after a heart attack. Researchers found that immune cells rush to the brain, triggering slow-wave sleep, a stage linked to recovery. The process seems to reduce inflammation in the heart, aiding in faster healing. In experiments with mice, blocking these immune cells prevented this deep sleep boost, worsening recovery outcomes. A similar trend was observed in human patients; poor sleep following a heart attack was tied to higher risks of complications. Experts suggest prioritizing rest and uninterrupted sleep for better recovery after heart injuries.
