An Open Letter in Response to Executive Order Withdrawing the United States from International Organizations, Conventions, and Treaties
Humanists International and other signatories, including the Rocky Mountain Atheists, have issued an open letter condemning the United States of America’s decision to withdraw from 66 international organizations, conventions, and treaties, including 31 United Nations entities. The letter warns that the move undermines global cooperation, weakens democracy, and isolates the USA at a time when global unity is most needed. By abandoning multilateral institutions like the UN Human Rights Council, the World Health Organization, and the Paris Climate Accords, the USA risks losing influence over global law, digital rights, and climate policy—leaving space for authoritarian regimes to shape the rules instead. The letter urges the USA to reverse course, reaffirm its commitment to internationalism, and honour its responsibilities under the UN Charter to promote peace, human rights, and global stability
