Canada’s census still asks about religion in a way that inflates the number of “religious” Canadians, even when people don’t actually practise or believe. That skews public policy, funding, and even business decisions. The Centre for Inquiry Canada (CFIC) argues it’s time for change. They want the 2031 census to properly capture the number of people who don’t identify with any religion, instead of lumping them into outdated categories based on family background. To push for a fix, CFIC is forming a task force on census accuracy — and they’re looking for people who care about fair data to get involved. If you’re interested, they’d like to hear from you.
